.thai routines in germany.

In February, my husband and I went on an amazing trip to Thailand, and I admit I didn’t want to come back. We trained in Muay Thai, lived by the pool, enjoyed the beaches, admired the views, and cherished our time together. I actually cried the day we left, not because I have an issue with how we live here in Germany; I may struggle with my anxiety at times, but I truly appreciate the life we have here. I cried because I enjoyed our slow-paced time together. I feel like we were at our most present.

Besides the slow pace of our time together, we probably had one of the healthiest vacations a couple could have. We ate well, slept soundly every night (going to bed before 9 pm), and got solid rest. When we got back to Germany, we decided to add and tweak a few things from our daily and weekly routines.

Things we’ve changed:

Alcohol. Honestly, I’m not against drinking, but I haven’t been in the mood since Oktoberfest. That hangover was no fun, and it’s only going to get worse as I get older. Out of the 18 days we were in Thailand, I think we drank three times: a lame cocktail at a rooftop bar, a beer afterward to make up for how lame that cocktail was, and a beer from the hotel fridge after a travel day. We just didn’t feel the need to drink. We haven’t had any alcohol since we got back. Meh, I’ll save it for special occasions and Oktoberfest.

Social Media. I removed TikTok. I deleted my account not long before our trip, and I don’t miss it. Ultimately, Seb and I have been trying to lessen our social media usage. I still enjoy a decent scroll on Instagram, but I’m trying to do better at designating when to do it.

Together time. Seb and I spent 18 days together exploring with little to no interruption. Since we got back, we’ve decided to go on dates more often. We’re exploring more and trying different restaurants pretty much every weekend if we can. It’s been so fun!

I enjoyed the two-and-a-half-week vacation, but I’m looking forward to shorter travel for the rest of the year!

Here’s what we added:

Kickboxing! We decided to join a local kickboxing gym in our town. I used to be a kickboxing instructor before Covid hit; however, if I remember correctly, our classes focused more on cardio, and technique wasn’t very important. While in Thailand, I learned a few extra moves and defensive techniques. I’m glad we’ve joined the nearby gym so I can keep learning. Here I am training in Thailand:

Smoothies and Juices! If you ever get the chance to visit Fitness Street in Phuket for a Muay Thai session, make sure to check out any of the breakfast or lunch spots. The food was tasty and healthy, and the smoothies were awesome. There’s one smoothie I became obsessed with called “Green Goodness,” which includes Medjool Dates, Spinach, Banana, and a few other ingredients. It was so good that I decided to make my own version at home. Seb also bought a Ninja Juicer to make ginger shots and carrot-based juices.

Coconuts! While I was in Thailand, I definitely had at least one coconut every day. We drank them whenever we could. Something about the heat makes you crave it. We probably needed the electrolytes. Anyway, when we got home, Seb found a website that sells coconuts from Thailand, so we had some shipped to our house to try. They were great, and we’ll be ordering them again when summer hits!

Also, a drink I tried for the first time was matcha with coconut water, a “Coconut matcha cloud”. It was so refreshing in the mornings. You can get this anywhere, but I didn’t know what it was until now. This is another drink I can’t wait to enjoy when the weather gets warmer.

I miss Thailand, and I can’t wait to go back, but I guess these few things will hold me over until then.

Always,

Dani
