New Makeup and I think I’m in Love!

A couple of weeks ago, I saw that Dior was releasing new makeup, and this was the first time I was actually excited. Don’t get me wrong, but I’ve tried some Dior makeup in the past and it just wasn’t for ME. Dior, to me, has always been for older women, the scent of the one foundation I tried was too strong, and the color selection was no good. Until this launch…

The Dior Backstage Collection. I immediately fell in love with this packaging. The foundation comes in the form of a cute plastic squeeze bottle, and overall, the collection is fresh and young, but still chic. The price is a lot nicer as well.  I only purchased the foundation and the lip palette though. There’s an eyeshadow and face palette as well, but I don’t wear eyeshadow that often and I really do not need another blush and highlight palette.

About the Dior Backstage Face and Body Foundation ($40):

First off, I want to shout out Fenty for pushing other brands to expand their shade range! I know they aren’t the first, but I don’t feel like other companies really PUSHED their shade range as much until Fenty dropped 40 shades all at once. I love everything from Fenty, but sadly, I just can’t wear the foundation. It truly is lovely, but my skin is on the drier side most of the time and the Pro Filt’r Soft Matte foundation was actually just too matte for me. I kept it though, and mixed it with the Becca Aqua Luminous foundation. This is a great mix if anyone is interested in trying! So, I was doing that until the Becca foundation ran out, and decided that I will not be repurchasing Fenty. I do recommend for women with oily skin though.

Thoughts: Ya’ll! I was nervous to buy this. I honestly thought there was no way Dior could get this right after my first experience trying makeup from them, but I was pleasantly surprised. When I saw the bottle, I thought the color may be a touch dark, but no. I put this on my face, and it’s literally, like seriously, my prefect match. For reference, I got shade 5W (ā€œtanā€ with warm yellow undertones). I always struggle with shade matching because I think I have a weird skin tone. My choices are either slightly light then it jumps to a shade that’s way too dark. I end up getting the shade that’s a touch lighter and it either oxidizes a bit or I add a little bronzer and I’m good. I don’t actually contour unless I’m performing.

I’ve recently started applying foundation with my fingers for light, but buildable, coverage. As I get older, I don’t mind showing my imperfections as much. The finish is ā€œnaturalā€. On the Sephora site, it says matte, but it feels soft on my face, not heavy. I feel like I could wear it all day and not notice a thing. This is also a product I don’t think I will need to set with powder, even in the hot summer months. Of course, if you are oily, this may not be the same for you. This will be great for all skin types.

5W “Tan with warm yellow undertones”

The only con I really have is the scent. If you don’t like perfume scents this may not be for you, however, the smell does not linger for too long. As I stated, I’m very happy with this range. The light, medium, and dark shades seem pretty equally distributed, but looking at the swatches, I think there’s opportunity to mix in a few more of the darkest AND lightest. I also feel there’s a bit of a jump between the tan and deep shades. The rest seem to have a nicer transition.

Honestly, this foundation blends like a dream and dare I say, it may be one of my favorites. This is marked as a repurchase.

Next up is the Dior Backstage Lip Palette ($49):

The Dior Backstage Lip Palette is the Dior makeup artists’ secret weapon to create an array of pro lip looks from ultra-natural to bold. A collection of makeup artist essentials inspired by the energy backstage at the runway shows, this palette offers shades that adapt to any skin tone, in buildable matte, satin and glossy finishes.

Thoughts: This is a really nice palette. I love the packaging and the truly universal shades. I was surprised that I could wear all of them. I stated this before that I hate the idea of palettes because there’s always one or two shades that end up being wasted, but I can use all of these. I really wanted it more for travel so I don’t have to carry ALL of my lipstick. This palette and one bright lippie will do! The shades are simple, nothing too drastic (unless you have a light skin tone and use the darkest shade), and is perfect for the girl going for no makeup makeup.

I do have one issue though. I think for the small size and the simplicity, they could have lowered the price. There’s nothing wrong with simple and luxe, but I would have liked it to be a more attainable product especially since it seems like they are pushing for a younger audience and everyday woman. The foundation is actually less expensive, so I think they could have marked this product even just $10 less. I am very pleased with this product, but I don’t think it’s a repurchase, unless you travel and want something simple. Of course, there are other palettes to choose from as well.

Overall, I’m so happy with this purchase and I recommend checking out the collection, especially for the foundation, which I think looks gorgeous on the skin. The Dior Backstage collection can be found on their website and will be available on the Sephora site on June 15th.
