It’s weird because if you asked me last year if I thought I’d even have a partner in 2024, I’d say no. I did not believe I would have a partner, but here I am, married. Everything happened pretty quickly, I guess.
Some know the story, but I figured I’d share how it all started. It started with a girl’s trip to Barcelona in May 2023. We were waiting to get into Paradiso Bar and decided to wait at Monk Bar for our midnight reservation or something. When we got our drinks at Monk, we stood by three guys speaking German. I decided to say something… all I had was, “What language are you speaking?” (I knew what language it was lol). One of the guys answered, “German,” but one of them seemed to slide his way closer to me, and we talked for quite some time and exchanged Instagrams. We met the next night at Opium nightclub. We had so much fun dancing together, and I didn’t even notice I was getting pickpocketed, losing my credit cards and phone. That put a huge damper on the night, but he didn’t leave my side. He helped me contact my friends and asked around for my things. My stuff was gone though.
Eventually, I had to return to my hotel with my friends to figure things out. I thought I’d never see him again, honestly. The next morning, he sent a DM to my friend, Monique, asking if I was ok. I had no phone, so she helped us meet. We walked around Las Ramblas for a bit before it was time to say goodbye, and he bought me a Harry Potter book in Spanish. I was heading to Portugal that day to continue my trip before returning to the US, and he was heading back to Germany. I didn’t think we’d ever see each other again, but we kept in touch on Instagram and started talking daily. That’s how it all began.
The plan was for him to visit me in the US in July 2023, but we pretty much planned all of our visits for the rest of 2023 before his first visit. I think our daily calls while being apart and traveling back and forth to see each other pretty much accelerated our relationship. On November 11th, we got engaged. We considered having a fall wedding, but I was drawn to February 24, 2024 (02.24.2024), so it was a quick turnaround. Anyway…
Whether or not I saw him again after Barcelona, I knew this would be a story I’d share with my grandchildren. I mean, this felt like a plot from a movie! But I wouldn’t have imagined that I’d end up marrying this person or that one day we could have our own children and grandchildren to tell this story to together.
I said this in my vows, “the stars had to align for us to meet.” I mean that. Some things could have stopped me from going on the girl’s trip, but I was adamant to go. I was stressed in my work and personal life, but I wanted this trip to happen. I would not have met the three Germans if that Paradiso bar had not been booked up that night. There are so many more of these thoughts. All of these things lead me to exactly where I am now.
We have a lot to figure out. Currently, we’re traveling back and forth between the US and Germany. It’s fun for now, but this lifestyle isn’t sustainable. We have to figure out exactly how we want to settle down, but I’ll look back at this period in my life as the biggest adventure I’ve ever been on. There are so many memories being created and so many stories to share with my loved ones.
For our friends and family: I appreciate everyone who truly supports us and roots for us. The people who have been there since day 1, the people consistently sending positive energy, and the people who are excited for us. I appreciate the people who ask how we are doing. I appreciate the people who have put the effort into seeing us during our celebrations and those who plan to see us when things slow down.
For my husband: My heart was yours the day we met, my love. I’m so happy to be with you and so happy to be your wife. Our adventure is just beginning. I love you, Sebastian.
Always,
Dani
