Just sharing that I managed to hit my 12 book/year goal in May.
Ich habe auch jeden Abend ein oder zwei Seiten in einem deutschen Buch gelesen. Das Buch war ein R.L. Stine-Schattenwelt-Buch namens „Die Geisterlehrerin“. Ich bin stolz auf mich.
I also read a book in German, only reading a page or two every evening. It was an R.L. Stine Schattenwelt book called Die Geisterlehererin (The Ghost Teacher). I’m proud of myself.

Quick Review: I’ll start with the good. The overall concept of the story was good to me. I felt invested and didn’t want to put the book down. Some things felt a bit outrageous, but I do enjoy stories with family mess. I wanted to see how it ended. The protagonist, however, was poorly written, in my opinion. She’s supposed to be 27, but reads like a teenager. I think she was supposed to be silly and have immature humor, but it fell flat, and she came off as quite annoying instead. I also think there were some pretty serious loose ends that the author just kind of ignored. I do think it’s worth a read because the concept was different, but I wouldn’t reread it.
Will I continue reading from this author? Maybe.
Is this a reread? Nope. I sold it.

Quick Review: I read this one because I wanted something short for once, and I’m trying to read more “classics”. The story is about a narrator who befriends his neighbor, Holly Golightly, a young woman with no job, but spends her time socializing with wealthy men in NYC. Holly is supposed to be a charming, quirky girl, but I found her pretentious. She’s pretty racist, but of course, this story was written in 1958, so someone’s going to be racist. Although I found the writing to be eloquent, the character kind of sucks, but I did sympathize with her at times. You could tell she was lonely and had no real home. Honestly, I prefer the movie.
Will I continue reading from this author? Yes.
Is this a reread? Maybe. More so because it’s short and I didn’t hate it.

Quick Review: I was definitely hooked from the premise alone. One day, an event happens that leaves only people of color in America. I was interested in reading how Black Americans were leading their lives. I was interested in the story around Charles, a Black man, and his estranged mixed-race daughter, Sidney, and how she deals with learning about his imprisonment due to racism. I cared about the characters, but at the end of the story, I felt like I was reading the author’s thoughts on magic and science and felt less connected to the characters, which, I feel, the author didn’t intend to do. Maybe it was a little too deep for me.

Quick Review: So let me preface by stating AGAIN that I absolutely love crime dramas centered around rich people. These stories are pretty juicy to me, and Bad Summer People was definitely that. Every character is hateable, but I loved it. I think if you’re looking for something that doesn’t require too much thought, this is pretty good, but if you’re looking for a sophisticated thriller, this isn’t it, and that’s okay.
